Nadi Shodhana

-A Class Series with Jill Palmer Giri

@ High Desert Yoga 4600 Copper Avenue NE, Albuquerque

www.highdesertyoga.com • (505)232-9642

 Thursdays, June 15 – July 20

 6:00–7:30 PM

In this series of classes, we will explore a routine of postures, breathing exercises and

supported poses that purify the subtle energy channels of the body, thus allowing the

prana (life energy) to flow freely throughout. Nadi Shodhana, often called “alternate

nostril breathing,” will be our primary breathing exercise after yoga postures. The

Sanskrit name “Nadi Shodhana” translates to “energy clearing”—purifying the subtle

energy channels or nadis thus allowing the prana to flow freely throughout the body.

This regular practice strengthens the respiratory system, balances the nervous system,

and relieves nervousness, stress, fatigue and headaches while purifying the blood. The

mind becomes peaceful, calm, and at ease.

The poses include back bends, forward bends, twists, hip-openers, and some inversions,

as this combination of poses encourages stream of subtle energy movement.

Most of all...bring your open heart, ready to energize and uplift one another in these mindful practices.

At times we must disengage from the rhythms of our daily lives and bring ourselves wholeheartedly to a group practice.  Coming together for meditation and yoga, meals or discussion cultivates inner-joy, awareness and mindfulness.  We use mindfulness to observe what is happening in our minds and hearts in order to realize and transform how that impacts our lives and those around us.  In this way we can explore the roots of our personal difficuties, as well as our potential depths of peace, compassion, and wisdom.

Deep Relaxation for Prenatal and Postnatal

$25 | 4600 Copper Avenue NE

Relaxation is one of the keys to embracing the challenges that pregnancy,  birthing and being a new mom may bring. You will be guided through breathing exercises and yoga poses designed to relax your mind and body and to prepare you for deep relaxation. We will practice guided breathing and meditation where you learn to relax your whole self and unwind your mind. This class will help you tap into your inner wisdom to give birth.

A pregnant woman and new mom are very capable of a doing a challenging yoga practice that can build confidence and stamina. However, it is important to strike a balance by also practicing gentler, more restful poses that teach her how to soften and surrender when she needs to relax. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of quieter, restorative poses is that they offer the mother time to be with her baby, listen to her baby and to her own body and, if anything, the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of her inner thoughts and feelings.

Learning to relax on a regular basis can help you to lower your heart rate and blood pressure, reduce sleep problems, ease muscle tension, calm the mind, reduce Braxton-Hicks contractions, prepare for labor and more...
